At Work

When you begin work, you will need to learn what you can expect of your employer and what will be expected of you.  This will differ with each occupation and employer; however there are some things that are the same in most Saskatchewan workplaces.  The following information will give you an overview of the workplace culture in Saskatchewan, what you can expect on the job and your rights and responsibilities as an employee.

  • Workplace Culture

Saskatchewan workplaces may be different from those in your home country.  These differences may include hours of work, style of dress, how people greet each other, how decisions are made and the type or amount of work you are assigned to do.  Find information on employer expectations and finding a mentor here.

  • On the Job

During your first few days of work, you will receive information on your job duties, hours of work, who you will report to and how you will be paid.  It is important to ask questions if there is anything you do not understand.

  • Rights and Responsibilities

There are laws in Saskatchewan that protect workers and employers.  These laws set minimum wage levels, health and safety standards, and hours of work.  Human rights laws protect employees from being treated unfairly because of their sex, age, race, religion or disability.
